Rachel & Marc

Rachel and Marc and their two children Jack and Lucy, were living in Auckland before moving to Tauranga. Marc had always wanted to build a new home, whereas Rachel was less convinced it was the right thing to do. However, all reservations changed after they visited a Signature Homes showhome in The Lakes.

Rachel and Marc went about their build journey by purchasing a section first as they wanted to secure two sites side-by-side for Rachel's mum to live next to them too. Of course, Rachel's mum built a Signature Home too, but that's for another Signature Homes customer story, and yes, they are side-by-side.

"We've always been drawn to a modern farmhouse look, so we wanted to bring this into our new home. In addition, we wanted our kitchen to be a real feature in our home, along with plenty of natural light."

Rachel and Marc mulled over a few plan options, deciding that they liked the layout of Signature Homes showhome in Papamoa, which is based on our Caroline Plan. They made a couple of tweaks to the plan, adding a walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom and some slight adjustments to the living area.

Good-sized kids' bedrooms were a must-have for Rachel and Marc, as they plan to be in their home for years to come. Children's bedrooms would need to transition into teenage bedrooms easily.

The ideal family home is achieved with two living spaces and open plan living for families to connect.

Rachel and Marc were clear from the start that they wanted a dark exterior with white joinery. Picture frame windows and boxed corners assist in achieving their modern farmhouse look.

“The brick and the linear combination, was a suggestion by our New Home Consultant and we love it”

Inside, you’ll find standout features such as antique brass handles and a beautiful stone benchtop that adds a striking contrast against the black cabinetry.

Black tapware was a must, as was the barn door to tick off the ‘modern farmhouse’ brief.
