Gill and Steve are originally from Essex in the UK, where barn conversions are a popular choice and a style they both love!

“It was always our dream to build a Kiwi version of a black and rustic red brick barn style home with high cathedral ceilings, and now we have it,” says Gill.

To create their barn-inspired home, Gill and Steve opted for Signature Homes Bay of Plenty and Coromandel’s Design & Build service so that they could design their home from scratch. Together, they worked with their Signature Homes architect to achieve their vision for a home that celebrates a barn-style living with a all the modern features.

Gill and Steve’s home features two defined wings with ample space for the entire family, including their three busy Labradoodles Charlie, Lulu and Dolly.

“Even though our daughters have both left home, we wanted plenty of space for all to enjoy, especially now we have our first grandchild,” says Gill.

Standout features include a gorgeous second living space where the brick from the exterior is welcomed indoors, high cathedral style ceilings in the living area, and covered outdoor living space with yet another striking fireplace.

The home sits on a prominent section capturing the stunning westerly view and beautiful sunsets of the Kaimai ranges.

There is so much to love about Gill and Steve’s home, from the reclaimed brick sourced from the Christchurch earthquake to the interior design where local designer Geal Garret helped Gill & Steve to achieve their Kiwi version of an English barn-inspired home.

The reclaimed brick features throughout the home, where both fireplaces indoor and outdoors feature the standout red brick.

Triclad board and batten was chosen for the exterior to achieve the barn look thanks to its higher stud board without any joins.

Inside, natural timber floors create a rustic feel, and an abundance of windows and sliding doors invites the outdoors inside.

Both Gill and Steve were impressed with Signature Homes Bay of Plenty & Coromandel attention to detail and the systems they had in place.

"We cannot fault our build experience; even all the various tradespeople were fantastic," says Steve.
