Why these first home buyers built new
Posted on January 6, 2023 in Living
As these young people have discovered, building new is not more expensive than buying an existing home and comes with the added benefit of a home that is designed and built to suit the way you dream of living. Let’s not forget that if you build a Signature Homes it will be backed by the best building guarantees in the country.
Jean and Todd are currently building in Lake Hawea, in picturesque Central Otago, and decided “To us building seemed more cost-effective way to spend our savings and the finished product is to our custom tastes. We also saw it as better value to have a new build to current specifications where we were the first and only occupant”.
Scott and Ashley have recently relocated to Nelson for work and decided to build as "we were drawn to being able to tailor the home to our lifestyle and the cost would be similar to buying an existing home". The frames are up on their new Juniper plan home, and excitement levels are high!
Think outside the square
Thinking outside the square helps when building your first home as does saving hard, utilising Kiwisaver, taking advantage of construction home loans, and speaking to mortgage brokers and new home builders.
Mariah and Blake are currently unpacking boxes in their new Smart Collection home in sunny Nelson, they had similar sentiments “We investigated buying existing properties in 2020 in the height of the property market boom but kept getting priced out by developers and people with more money than we did. After several failed attempts we looked into building and discovered it was in our price range and we didn’t have to do any renovation work which is a bonus”!
Subdividing an existing section is another way around increasing land costs. Saraniyaa has undertaken a Knock Down & Rebuild project on the back of her parent’s section in South Auckland. She is building a Modified Austral, 3-bedroom home for herself which she cannot wait to get started on, keep an eye out for build progress on her soon-to-be-launched Instagram page!
Shanice, her partner, and their dog have taken a similar approach by subdividing the back of Shanice’s parents’ section, in East Auckland. This ticks many boxes for the couple as they can stay close to family, build a home that suits their needs and complete the process cost-efficiently.
Why not arrange a no-obligation New Home Workshop to discuss how your first home could be a new build?
